John Simester, Watercolourist

United Kingdom / England

I have always had an interest in watercolours but had not pursued it since leaving school.  After retiring from work, I looked for an additional interest to combine with my other hobby which is sailing.

It was then that I discovered Peter Saw's unique tutorial CD, Interactive Watercolours, I ordered a copy and this turned out to be the best purchase I have ever made.  There is a very helpful forum for members too.

I have been painting for about three years now.  I have a way to go but feel I'm progressing really well.  I'm trying to discover my own unique style and I'm experimenting with a slightly looser style.  I help to involve the viewer in interpreting the work.

I love watching the magic of the pigment as it moves around a damp paper as though it has a mind of it's own.

I love the sense of anticipation when viewing a painting the following day when it has just fully dried and looking at it as if for the first time.  Watercolour is such a wonderful medium.
